Wow !!!!!! What a month of March we had. The Fly Tying Class had a record number of tyers (17) and the Annual Banquet had a record number of attendees (160). Numbers are still coming in and we still have to pay a few vendors, but overall, we had a very successful fundraiser. Thanks to the Banquet Committee and Board Members for planning and organizing the event. I would like to specially thank Tim Good for an outstanding effort in soliciting donors, Tim was influential in getting ThorLabs to sponsor the open bar for the cocktail hour.
As usual, after Trout Season opens in NJ, our Chapter starts to get active. We have a couple river clean ups, a fishing derby, Cold Water Conservation School, Deliver onion sacks, etc. We need your help to do a good job. Please attend a meeting and sign up to participate.
As per membership request, we are planning a few day fishing trips. I know that some of you want to attend our fishing trips but can't commit to long weekends. Our plan is to divide the Flatbrook into few sections (8-10) and have one of our knowledgable chapter members "guide" the group. This is a great opportunity for beginners to learn and experienced anglers to share. Stay tuned for more information.
Our Chapter is considering participating in Project Healing Waters (PHW). PHW is a program that provide basic fly fishing, fly tying, fly casting, and rod building classes to combat veterans who are adapting to their new abilities. PHW will visit our Chapter at our May meeting to discuss details and assist us in planning our first event. This worthwile activity will need many volunteers, including non members. We will have more details on how to participate in the coming weeks.
Our April Speaker is Dave Hess from Tight Lines Fly Fishing. Dave Hess will speak on the topic of Steelhead fishing.
Finally, our chapter requested to designate the 4.5 mile stretch of the Flatbrook from Rte 206 to Roy Bridge as a Year Round TCA for the 2014 season. The request was made at the February Fish and Game meeting. Pat Bergamo is leading the effort and will provide an update as the request progress through the channels. A vote is expected in October.
