Message from the President:

Go Giants !!!!!!

January was a flurry of activity, and from the looks of it, February looks like it's going to be the same.

In January, the Banquet Committee continue to plan for our Annual Banquet and solicit donations from donors.  The committee is also hard at work doing mailings and filling out paper work to get our gaming license.

We did really well at the Fly Fishing Show.  Our volunteers worked hard to sell Fly Box and Kayak raffle tickets.  Thanks to Darren Rist for making sure we secured a strategic location, Rich Rist for the outstanding salesmanship, John Nordstedt, Tony Aguarino, and Glenn Zeeck for transporting the Kayak.  Mrs. Tippy for arranging over 750 flies in the Fly Box.  Dave King and his daughters, Ken and Lois McDonald, Glenn Tippy, Sue Reed, Sue Zeeck, and Willi Huber for their time behind the counter.  I hope to see more of our members participate at next year's show.

In February, we will continue to plan for the banquet and also participate in the "Cast and Blast" event at Ramsey Outdoor in Succasunna (Feb 25, 2012 from 10-4PM).  We will continue to sell our Fly Box and Kayak raffle at this event.  We need volunteers behind our table to do Fly tying demos and be cashiers for the raffle tickets.

We will begin our 7 week Fly Tying Class on Tuesday, Feb 7, 2012 from 6-9 PM at Camp Jefferson in Jefferson, NJ.  Darren Rist and a few members will be the instructors.  Beginners and Intermediate/Advance tyers are welcome to attend.  The cost of the class is $50.00.

On February 22, the Flatbrook Project Committee, chaired by Glenn Tippy, and Brian Cowden will meet with the National Park Service (NPS) along with  other state and federal agencies to determine if our project is on track or if we need to comply with "other" regulations.

Darren Rist will be our featured speaker at our February meeting.  Darren's presentation will be very informative and exciting.  He will share with all in attendance his secret spots (GPS coordinates) in the West Branch.

Finally, I hope everyone is taking advantage of our beautiful weather.  I think winter is just around the corner !!!!!

Be the fly........ Bob Jacinto

TIC February 2012 Update

A little over three months have passed, since 18 North Jersey schools received a delivery of some 200 fertilized brook trout eggs, together with the necessary food supplies. We enjoyed a great turn-out of volunteers to deliver the eggs, and it was in a large part due to their efforts, that this day came and went without a flaw. Thanks to all!

Since then, the eggs hatched and by now the fry has grown to a size of about an inch and a half. We did experience a small number of chiller problems, where the chillers had to be replace with a temporary loaner, until John Nordstedt, our (state-wide) chiller technician had made the repairs and re-delivered the chillers.

A total of four schools so far did experience a fish die-off, one due to a power failure and the others due to various other circumstances. And one other school, West Milford’s Macopin School (please sit down before you read on….) had all their fish stolen and the class room vandalized in the process. I am told that this was a first for the TIC program, although there was a school in southern New Jersey some years ago, where vandals disconnected the chiller and filter, resulting in the total loss of fish. All five of the schools received a new supply of fish, which we picked up at the Pequest Hatchery. Let’s call it the January private stocking program.!

 All for now!
